It’s a bird!  It’s a plane!  It’s...Tyler playing Dungeons & Dragons?  He certainly ups our nerd quotient (remember that Karen works here, so that was tough to do).  Turns out, the guy’s a great lawyer, too.

Tyler graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2015 and despite that obvious flaw in his judgment, KSB School Law hired Tyler in June of 2020.  Tyler also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Philosophy (LOL) from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, where he graduated magna cum laude (yup, he is one of those really smart types…..).

Tyler is originally from Pierre, South Dakota, bringing the total number of KSB attorneys from SD to 50-percent!  Tyler’s dad is a high school principal in Pierre.  Having grown up with educators, and being married to a middle school math teacher, Tyler has seen the complex legal issues schools face everyday from about every perspective.  His love of education law is evident when you speak with him.  Tyler was already several years into a successful career when he took the full dive into the education law practice by joining KSB, and we’re so glad he did.

Tyler’s experience in constitutional law and litigation is a great jumping off point.  He is enjoying the daily reality of practicing education law.  It’s like the weather in the midwest--just wait 5 minutes and it’ll change.  Tyler has also handled many student discipline and personnel matters, and like the rest of us he has a love of special education law.

Tyler is the anchor of KSB’s Sioux Falls office, though he spends plenty of time hanging out in the Lincoln offices.  (The rest of us frequent our Sioux Falls office, but we have to give Tyler some warning so he knows not to wear his cape).   He’s also the tallest lawyer in our firm, which at KSB is a bit like beating a noob at World of Warcraft.

Tyler is married to Chelsey, and they are the proud parents of a little monster named Sullivan (“Sully”) who is just as adorable as that name would suggest.  Chelsey is a middle school math teacher in Harrisburg, SD, which explains a lot about her tolerance for Tyler’s new practice area and his #nerdnature.  In his free time Tyler enjoys playing D&D, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and trying to figure out exactly how much to play up or down his degree from the University of Iowa while in the Lincoln office.
